In March 2012 Westminster set out to raise funds for several major projects, including the refurbishment of Little Dean’s Yard. Of our ambitious £25 million target just over £9 million remains and by sponsoring a stone OWW can help the School to realise this important goal. Through their support OWW will join Dryden, Purcell and Jonson by adding their names to the list of illustrious alumni recognised in this historic precinct.
For centuries, Little Dean’s Yard has served as the very heart of the Great School and has played witness to all aspects of School life, from pick-up football games to visits from Her Majesty The Queen. Sadly, years of hard wear and tear compounded by unsympathetic repairs carried out to correct post-War damage have left it looking worn and distorted. It is our intention to return this historic space to a much more fitting condition in keeping with its practical use and aesthetic value. Original ancient pathways will be restored and the footprints of previous structures will be outlined in contrasting stone, resulting in an overall design that meets the needs of today while recalling the area’s rich architectural history.
The integration of named OW stones is an important part of the design for Yard. The named stones will be substantial in size (please see below for exact measurements) and will add to the beauty and history of the refurbished space. OWW can also indicate where they would like their stone placed.
